Are you at a crossroads with your career? Struggling to get a better paying job or a job you actually like?
As a member of an alternative lifestyle, do you resent having to suppress yourself for the sake of fitting in to keep your paycheck? Are you having a hard time making it to the interview because your resume is unseemly and you don’t know where to begin to make it presentable? Are you unsure about the type of work you'd enjoy or are you struggling to manage your career in general?
Some Corporate Goths and GLBPQT in the workplace feel an emotional and physiological toil of dissidence between their work and lifestyle. For an individual within the alternative lifestyle scene - particularly for "straight up" Goths and others whose unique lifestyle is more visually apparent through their clothing expression – it can result in unfair treatment and negative assumptions and stereotypes that can impact job satisfaction and productivity, not to mention have a huge impact on their paychecks through lost opportunities and promotions.
The feeling of hopelessness, pessimism, suppression and censorship of who they are can lead to more frustration that can seep into the other parts of their lives. Additionally, low morale and decreased productivity can create the "valid" justification that their lack of promotability and lost opportunities are actually justified, which creates a slippery slope for both the individual and the company he works for
In short, not only do members of alternative lifestyles encounter the same struggles as everyone else, but they are more at risk for encountering additional barriers that can affect their ability to compete in the workforce and manage their careers successfully.
Through Eidolon Career Solutions, I provide career management coaching, education, and resources to help you achieve ultimate work-life harmony by facilitating your exploration or transition into the career you love by discovering your passions, natural strengths and if necessary, fine-tuning your resume and other application documents to truly communicate your value. Additionally, I coach you in managing stereotypes and workplace difficulties based on your alternative lifestyle if that's keeping you from your larger goals.
Imagine you had the work-life harmony you wanted.
You enjoy going to work as much as you enjoy coming home. Imagine being able to go out in your Gothic-Getup and not be afraid of running into co-workers or getting the black nail polish off at 7am the next morning. Imagine your colleagues being intrigued, friendly, and interested instead of afraid, rude, and hesitant. Imagine being judged by your character and value, not on your dress or lifestyle.
Whether or not you have a partner and kids or you spend your evenings with your three cats - point is you have responsibilities. Your partner wants cuddle time and pretty things, your kids don't just want a PlayStation, they want a Wii and Xbox because even the same game comes with different characters! Even your cats are on your 'to do' list. They don't want dry food anymore, they twirl around your ankles every night begging for that expensive canned wet food. How can you say 'no' ? You're at the point where sacrificing yourself is 'worth it' for the sake of your responsibilities. You may even be too busy with the daily grind to think about what it is you really want out of your career and how to get it.
